Overview
EN ISO 19054:2006 (identical to ISO 19054:2005) specifies basic requirements for rail systems for supporting medical equipment. Its primary aim is to ensure compatibility between rail systems and medical equipment so devices can be transferred safely from one rail system to another. The standard covers dimensions, strength, and the information manufacturers must supply. It applies only to horizontally mounted rail systems and explicitly excludes overhead rails used only for curtains and infusion devices. EN ISO 19054:2006 was adopted by CEN and is intended to support compliance with relevant EU medical device directives.
