Overview
The IEC 62196-2:2016 standard specifies dimensional compatibility and interchangeability requirements for plugs, socket-outlets, vehicle connectors, and vehicle inlets used in conductive charging of electric vehicles (EVs). Designed by the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC), this edition focuses on a.c. (alternating current) pin and contact-tube accessories with nominal operating voltages up to 480 V a.c. and rated currents up to 63 A three-phase or 70 A single-phase.
This second edition revises and replaces the 2011 standard, reflecting updated specifications particularly for configuration types 2 and 3, including the introduction of an optional shutter for configuration type 2 connectors.
