Overview
ISO 1005-3:1982 - "Railway rolling stock material - Part 3: Axles for tractive and trailing stock - Quality requirements" defines quality, manufacturing and inspection requirements for steel axles used in locomotive (tractive) and trailing rolling stock. It covers permissible steel grades (unalloyed and alloyed), delivery heat-treatment conditions, required tests and acceptance criteria for soundness, microstructure and mechanical performance.
