The standard defines test shrouds, instrumentation, test dusts and environmental conditions to determine filter resistance, dust holding capacity, particulate removal efficiency and sealing characteristics for powered fresh‑air systems.

- Efficiency calculation: Filter efficiency is derived from measured mass increases of the test element and the absolute filter (clause 4.2.8). An alternate method with specific procedural cautions is provided in Annex B to avoid overestimation.
