Description (English):

ISO 10893-3:2011 specifies requirements for automated full peripheral magnetic flux leakage testing of seamless and welded ferromagnetic steel tubes, with the exception of submerged arc-welded (SAW) tubes, for the detection of imperfections. Unless otherwise specified in the purchase order, ISO 10893-3:2010 is applicable to the detection of predominantly longitudinal imperfections. ISO 10893-3:2010 is applicable to the inspection of tubes with an outside diameter equal to or greater than 10 mm. It can also be applicable to the testing of hollow sections.

Overview - ISO 10893-3:2011 (Magnetic Flux Leakage for Steel Tubes)

ISO 10893-3:2011 specifies requirements for automated full peripheral magnetic flux leakage (MFL) testing of seamless and welded ferromagnetic steel tubes (excluding submerged arc-welded - SAW) to detect predominantly longitudinal and, by agreement, transverse imperfections. The standard applies to tubes with an outside diameter ≥ 10 mm and can also be applied to hollow sections. It defines test methods, calibration using reference tubes, equipment checks, acceptance criteria and reporting for non-destructive testing (NDT) of steel tubes.

- Reference tubes should match tested tube diameter, thickness, surface finish and delivery condition.
Personnel & verification
- Operators must be qualified per ISO 9712, ISO 11484 or equivalent.
- Reference standard dimensions and shapes must be verified by a suitable technique.
Limitations
- Annex A addresses practical limits of MFL detection (e.g., near bore or thick walls).
