This document specifies a test method for the determination of particle size distribution of metallic blast-cleaning abrasives by sieving. This is one of a number of parts of ISO 11125 dealing with the sampling and testing of metallic abrasives for blast-cleaning. The types of metallic abrasive and requirements on each are contained in the various parts of ISO 11124. The ISO 11124 and ISO 11125 series have been drafted as a coherent set of International Standards on metallic blast-cleaning abrasives. Information on all parts of both series is given in Annex A.

Overview

ISO 11125-2:2018 specifies a laboratory test method for the determination of particle size distribution of metallic blast‑cleaning abrasives by sieving. It is part of the ISO 11125 series of test methods for metallic abrasives used in the preparation of steel substrates before painting. The standard defines sampling and test‑portion requirements, apparatus, sieving procedure, result expression, precision considerations and reporting essentials for quality control and compliance testing.

Expression of results:
- Report percentage by mass retained on each sieve and cumulative retained values; results reported to the nearest 1 %.

- Check sieve calibration and freedom from retained abrasive; variation in sieve openings (per ISO 565 tolerances) can significantly affect results.
Reporting:
- Test report must identify the product (see ISO 11124), reference ISO 11125-2:2018, give results, note any deviations, test date and operator.
