Overview
ISO 12154:2014 specifies a standardized method for rapid determination of skeleton density of solid materials using gas displacement pycnometry. The method applies to samples of regular or irregular shape, either powdered or in one piece. Skeleton density (mass divided by the solid skeleton volume) is measured by expanding an inert analysis gas (commonly helium) between a sample chamber and a reference chamber under isothermal conditions and recording equilibrated pressures.
