Description (English):

ISO 13934-1:2013 specifies a procedure to determine the maximum force and elongation at maximum force of textile fabrics using a strip method. The method is mainly applicable to woven textile fabrics, including fabrics which exhibit stretch characteristics imparted by the presence of an elastomeric fibre, mechanical, or chemical treatment. It can be applicable to fabrics produced by other techniques. It is not normally applicable to geotextiles, nonwovens, coated fabrics, textile-glass woven fabrics, and fabrics made from carbon fibres or polyolefin tape yarns (see Bibliography). The method specifies the determination of the maximum force and elongation at maximum force of test specimens in equilibrium with the standard atmosphere for testing, and of test specimens in the wet state. The method is restricted to the use of constant rate of extension (CRE) testing machines.

ISO 13934-1:2013 defines a standardized strip method to determine the maximum force and elongation at maximum force of textile fabrics. Primarily aimed at woven fabrics (including those with elastomeric fibres or stretch imparted by treatment), the standard prescribes specimen preparation, conditioning, test speeds, machine accuracy and reporting requirements for tensile testing using a constant-rate-of-extension (CRE) testing machine.

Testing machine and performance
- CRE machines must record force and extension; accuracy to class 1 of ISO 7500-1 where possible.
- Maximum force error ≤ ±1%; jaw separation error ≤ ±1 mm.
- Data acquisition frequency ≥ 8 samples/second when using digital recording.
- Required constant extension rates: 20 mm/min and 100 mm/min (accuracy ±10%).
- Jaw design: smooth flat faces preferred; serrated/corrugated or capstan jaws permissible to prevent slippage.
Conditioning and wet testing
- Atmospheric conditioning per ISO 139; preconditioning in relaxed state recommended for at least 24 hours.
- Wet-state testing uses Grade 3 water (ISO 3696) and non‑ionic wetting agent where applicable.
Results and reporting
- Record maximum force and elongation at maximum force; optionally force at rupture and elongation at rupture.
- Include machine class, specimen width, gauge length, test speed, conditioning details in the test report.
