ISO 16546:2020 - Overview
ISO 16546:2020 specifies a laboratory test method to determine the freeze–thaw resistance of thermal insulating products for building applications. The standard defines equipment, specimen preparation and an automated cycling procedure that simulates repeated transitions from dry cold (−20 ± 2 °C) to wet warm (20 ± 2 °C) conditions. The test assesses changes in water absorption and mechanical (compression) performance after 300 successive freeze–thaw cycles - a scenario representative of products exposed to moisture and low temperatures (for example, inverted roofs and unprotected ground insulation).
