Overview
ISO 18566-4:2017 - “Building environment design - Design, test methods and control of hydronic radiant heating and cooling panel systems - Part 4” - specifies control requirements for ceiling mounted water‑based radiant heating and cooling panels. It applies to systems installed under ceilings (with or without open air gaps) in residential, commercial and industrial buildings and covers only the components and elements that form part of the panel heating/cooling assemblies. Embedded panels (integrated into ceilings, walls or floors) are not covered.

- Flow control, thermal mass and dynamics: Control design must account for panel thermal mass, time constants, self‑regulating effects and distribution losses to avoid simultaneous heating and cooling and to optimize energy efficiency.
- Protection functions: Controls should provide frost/moisture protection when comfort temperatures are not required.
