Overview
ISO 22683:2022 establishes a standardized test method to evaluate the rotational adaptability between an implant body and an implant abutment in dental implant systems. The standard applies specifically to systems that rely on an anti-rotational feature (for example hexagonal connections) rather than a friction-fit. It prohibits the use of analogs or replicas for adaptability evaluation and defines sampling, apparatus, procedure and reporting requirements to reduce variability and improve comparability of test results.

Apparatus

Sampling and procedure
- Test assemblies: five implant bodies and five implant abutments are required.
- The implant body is fixed so its central axis is perpendicular to the lower jig; the abutment is passively seated on the upper jig without the connecting screw.
- The upper jig rotates freely; measure the maximum rotation (clockwise and counter-clockwise) and record the rotational angle for each assembly.

- Test reports must identify product, manufacturer, lot/serial numbers, materials, dimensions, test method, goniometer specification, measured angles, mean and standard deviation for the five assemblies, and any anomalies or test conditions affecting results.
