ISO 3272-1:2003 - Microfilming of technical drawings and other drawing office documents - Part 1: Operating procedures defines practical operating rules for producing 35 mm unperforated microfilm of technical drawings and drawing-office documents. The standard covers reduction and enlargement ratios, image and frame dimensions, document preparation and placement, and basic filming procedures for originals up to A0 (or maximum 912 mm × 1 230 mm). It is intended for archives, engineering and architectural drawing offices, records managers and microfilming service providers who need reliable, exchangeable microforms.

- Original preparation: Originals should include centre markings (accuracy ±0.5 mm), two orientation marks, borders (A0/A1: 20 mm; A2–A4: 10 mm minimum), and a 100 mm metric graduation for scale reproduction.
- Filming procedures: Requirements cover camera table positioning (centre-mark coincidence tolerance), leader/trailer length on reels (typically 200–500 mm unexposed), and arrangements when multiple sheets share a single frame.
