ISO 3826-3:2006 defines requirements and performance criteria for plastic, collapsible, non‑vented, sterile blood bag systems that include integrated features. It is a specialized part of the ISO 3826 series and supplements ISO 3826-1:2003 (conventional containers). ISO 3826-3 covers systems that may incorporate one or more integrated features such as leucocyte filters, pre‑donation sampling devices (PDS), top‑and‑bottom (TBB) bags, platelet storage bags (PSB) and needle‑stick protection devices (NPD). Tests apply to containers “ready for use.” The standard does not apply to automated blood collection systems and national regulations or pharmacopoeias take precedence where applicable.
