ISO 6474-1:2019 - Implants for surgery: Ceramic materials - Part 1: Ceramic materials based on high purity alumina specifies material characteristics and test methods for bio‑stable, high‑purity alumina ceramics used as bone spacers, bone replacements and components of orthopaedic joint prostheses. The standard defines classification, production‑equivalent specimen preparation, mandatory tests for production control and material qualification, and quantitative property limits. Biocompatibility is excluded and must be addressed separately (see ISO 10993-1).
