ISO 7539-5:1989 - "Corrosion of metals and alloys - Stress corrosion testing - Part 5: Preparation and use of C‑ring specimens" specifies procedures for designing, preparing, stressing, exposing and inspecting C‑ring specimens used to assess susceptibility to stress corrosion cracking (SCC). - Inspection and assessment: Visual inspection and low‑magnification checks are common; ambiguous indications should be followed by continued exposure or metallographic cross‑sectioning. Report times to cracking, failure criteria, and detailed test parameters.
- Test reporting: Record stressing method, applied stress magnitude, specimen orientation, dimensions, surface prep, alloy identification and environment details.
