Overview
ISO 8084:2003 specifies laboratory test methods and performance requirements for operator protective structures (OPS) fitted to self‑propelled forestry machinery. Applicable to mobile forestry machines (see ISO 6814) used in felling, processing, forwarding and skidding, the standard defines how OPS should resist penetrating hazards such as saplings, branches and broken winch lines. ISO 8084 clarifies that OPS are intended to reduce-but not eliminate-the risk of operator injury in normal operations and do not protect against very small, thrown objects (e.g., chain teeth).

- Protective screens: max 45 mm × 45 mm openings with 6 mm woven wire mesh or equivalent.
- Provisions for two means of egress; glazing may be used and guards should allow manual cleaning.
- OPS may be part of or attached to ROPS/FOPS if attachment does not impair performance.
