ISO 8501-3:2006 describes visual preparation grades for welds, cut edges and other areas of steel substrates that show surface imperfections. These imperfections can be apparent before or after abrasive blast-cleaning. The standard defines three preparation grades-P1 (light), P2 (careful) and P3 (very careful)-to make welded and fabricated steel surfaces suitable for the application of paints and related products.
