EN ISO 3459:2022 - “Plastic piping systems - Mechanical joints between fittings and pressure pipes - Test method for leaktightness under negative pressure” - is a CEN-endorsed adoption of ISO 3459:2022. It specifies two laboratory test procedures for verifying the leaktightness of assembled mechanical joints (non‑fusion) between fittings and plastic pressure pipes with diameters up to and including 63 mm when the joint is subjected to external pressure or internal vacuum.

- Test pieces consist of fitting(s) assembled with pipe segments; assembly per manufacturer’s instructions.
- Components shall not be tested until 24 h after production (shorter preconditioning allowed for practical reasons; 24 h in disputes).
- Pipe/fitting dimensions should ideally be near tolerance extremes to simulate worst‑case sealing conditions.
