Overview
ISO 14243-1:2009 - Implants for surgery - Wear of total knee-joint prostheses - Part 1 describes the loading, displacement and environmental parameters for laboratory wear testing of total knee replacements using wear-testing machines with load control. The standard defines how to reproduce the flexion/extension motion, contact force patterns, speeds, durations, specimen configuration and fluid test environment to simulate in vivo walking conditions and obtain reproducible wear data.

- Apparatus & reporting: Requires enclosed, corrosion-resistant fixtures, reproducible alignment methods, and detailed test reporting (see Clause 8) including medium composition and test parameters.
