Overview
ISO 17361:2017 - Intelligent transport systems - Lane departure warning systems - Performance requirements and test procedures - defines the functional, human‑machine interface (HMI) and test requirements for in‑vehicle lane departure warning systems (LDWS). It applies to passenger cars, commercial vehicles and buses operating on highways and highway‑like roads. The standard covers system definition, classification, required and optional functions, measurable performance limits and standardized test procedures. It excludes warnings in sections with temporary or irregular lane markings (e.g., roadworks). ISO 17361:2017 makes clear that LDWS issue warnings only; they do not take automatic control and vehicle safety remains the driver’s responsibility.

- Indicate system status (on/off, failure, incapable) clearly using standard symbols; document minimum operating speed and conditions for “system incapable” in the owner’s manual.
