Overview
ISO 4536:1985, titled Metallic and Non-Organic Coatings on Metallic Substrates - Saline Droplets Corrosion Test (SD Test), is an International Standard published by ISO. It defines a standardized method for assessing the corrosion resistance of metallic and non-organic coatings on metal substrates using a saline droplets corrosion test. The standard specifies the test solution composition, necessary equipment, and detailed procedural steps to perform the test effectively.
Designed primarily to detect defects and discontinuities in metal coatings cathodic to the substrate, as well as certain chemical or electrochemical conversion coatings, ISO 4536 focuses on simulating the effects of sea spray environments through discrete saline droplet exposure. However, it is not suitable for coatings exposed to more severe service conditions.
